COMPANY PROFILE
HISTORY
Wiersum Plantbreeding BV was established in 1909 by Mr. M. Wiersum. With varieties from the Swedish plantbreeding company Svalöf Wiersum managed to capture a large market share in The Netherlands as well as abroad.
In 1941 Wiersum Plantbreeding BV started its own breeding programme. Later on an agriculture farm with 100 ha in Dronten, North-East from Amsterdam was bought.
What has started as a small family business is now a successful, modern plantbreeding specialist with a staff of 20 people.
ACTIVITIES
Our team breeds, selects and markets varieties that suit a wide range of conditions. Using our knowledge and new selection techniques, we lay the foundation for new varieties with unique quality characteristics that will exceed existing varieties.
By cooperating with different international partners the knowledge and the field of activity is enlarged.
Seed of potential varieties in an early stage is sent to national and international partners to judge the quantity and the quality characteristics.
The promising varieties are produced at our company in Dronten or with our partners abroad.
MISSION STATEMENT
By developing newer, better and healthier varieties of wheat, barley, oats and fibre flax, our company wants to hold on to an important position in the market.
By adapting to the requirements of the customer, we yearly aim to get new varieties commercialized which realize growth and efficiency improvement and obtain a large market share.
